December 15, 2015

Series Wrap is a mini-feature where I sum up what I loved and loathed about a particular series upon completion. The rules are simple: I must have read and reviewed ALL books in said series and the series must be completed by the author. These posts are seperate from reviews.

Summing Up

Why I liked this series

It was so damned unique and interesting. Marissa Meyer put a great spin on fairy tales that had been told over and over again. Sometimes she would sneak in little nods to the original fairy tale at the most unexpected moments. Event though you KNOW the original stories, things didn’t necessarily follow that line.

There was also a whole heap of action – and action done well. Though there were slow points in each each book, everything was constantly working toward SOMETHING and every character was vital in the telling.

Why I disliked this series

I never really felt a OMG MY HEART IS BURSTING connection to the characters, and the relationships were so vanilla and predictable. Each book had it’s titular character and you just knew that THAT character was going to find their counterpart in that book. There was no multiple possible romances, there was just ONE romance for ONE character… they all followed similar plotlines, too, in the way in which the romances were told.

In Conclusion

Would I read this series again? Probably not, but I’m glad I did once!
Would I recommend this series? Of course, it was an enjoyable read and one I’m sure others will love!
This series in one word: Fun.
